Summer Party Place Settings: Cantalope Sailboats

Looking for a fabulous and inexpensive "WOW" factor for your wedding? So simple. So uniqe. I found this in the Southern Living Magazine; July 2009 Issue. This is great for the beach, summer or even spring wedding.

The cantalope sailboat. A wonderful spring/summer place setting. Take a wedge of melon which is basically a simple boat shape. (you can use honeydew or even watermelon if you prefer.) Then take a wooden skewer, some twine and thick card stock for a sail. Cut your paper into a curve triangle and use a pen to personalize. Cut a hole at the top and bottom of the paper and feed it onto a wood skewer. Afix a small piece of knotted twine at each end and stick into cantalope. Voila! A wonderful place setting that your guests will talk about. Take it a step further and purchase wedding stock with a light pattern or color coordinate to your wedding. You can also add other sailboat or nautical themes to the reception.

Table Top Wedding Cake Tables. Gorgeous. Unique.

After month and months of deciding on the flavor of the cake, what the cake will look like and what topper you will be choosing ... you need to follow through and make plans for the cake table and presentation. This magnificent labor of love should be placed in such a way that all eyes are drawn to it. The cake is second to the bride and her gown in the grand scheme of things.

The wedding cake is usually displayed from the very beginning of the reception, until you cut it. If you're adding special lighting to the room, add a spotlight for the cake table. Otherwise, park it somewhere well lit and in full sight of the guests, but off the dance floor, or it might wind up on the floor during the first fast dance.

Cake table secrets

The base of the cake determines the size of the table. Make sure they are in proportion to each other. A huge, round table makes even the stateliest cake look minuscule. Use A Paper Doilie to Make a Ruffle for a Vase

Looking for a unique way to decorate your floral arrangements? I came across this adorable idea in Country Living Magazine. So simple, yet so elegant. You can literally turn a paper doily into a ruffle for a vase with these simple steps from David Stark.

To make an Elizabethan Collar:

To allow an inexpensive paper doily to turn a plain white vase (or other color) with flowers a beautiful display:

1. Remove the solid center from a six- to eight-inch doily by cutting in a circle with a sharp craft knife.
2. Fold the remaining ring in half, to form a C shape.
3. Starting at one end, accordion-fold the paper five or six times, making firm creases.
4. Unbend the collar. Slip it over the neck of a vase and affix with double-sided tape.

Pros and Cons of the Aisle Runner ... Have One or Not?

Why the aisle runner you ask? Brides first starting using aisle runners when roads were unpaved and guests would arrive and promptly track dirt, mud and anything else they could bring in from from the streets. A clean white runner was laid down so the bride's dress would not drag through the mud. In medieval times, runners were placed on the aisle to keep evil spirits from coming up through the ground to attack the bride and groom. Today, it is simply a wedding tradition that has carried on. An aisle runner does add a touch of elegance to your ceremony; and it still ensures that your dress stays clean on your walk down the aisle! But there are Pro's and Cons:

The Pros:

• They add to the elegance of the ceremony site both in decor, and the tradition of the Usher's rolling the runner out
• Runners can incorporate your colors into the ceremony space
• They can help give your guests the message that they should “stay off” the aisle

With a Runner:
