Davey Jones of the Monkey's said it best, "I'm a believer, I couldn't leave it if I tried..." : ) I can't believe it, but I am a true believer in the power of Spanx. I've got 2 weddings this month and a dress I love that is a tad clingy. What to do . . . suck it in and be conscious of it; wear a long sweater or do what everyone else does, wear the control top panythose and hope the lines don't show. The Audrey Hepburn "Updo" Timeless and Classic

Bangs are in. There are Bettie Page bangs, the Cleopatra straight cut bangs and the fringe bangs; and then there are the short short bangs. Then there is the Audrey Hepburn hairdo in Breakfast at Tiffany's. On Audrey Hepburn, short bangs accentuate her doe like eyes, making them appear larger than they were. Your eyes are drawn to her eyes by the well shaped eyebrows and large eyes. Hepburn's updo gives her a flirtatious pixy look which is she is famous for.

Hepburn's updo is timeless. Her hair is simply pulled up into a ponytail and fluffed for fullness. The ends are curled under and secured with bobby pins. If you feel secure with this look, here's how to get it:

• Separate your bangs. Your bangs need to be cut in an uneven pattern and texturized, by point cutting or with a razor, so that they appear light and natural. Cutting them straight off will give you a blunt and chunky look.
• Pull the rest of your hair back smoothly and form it into a full, controlled ponytail. This can be achieved on very long hair by pulling all the hair up into a high ponytail and fanning it out; or if you have very thick hair, you can backcomb the ponytail and then lightly smooth it over the top. The third option .... buy a hair piece to add on.
• Pin the ends under and spray with firm-hold hairspray.
• In hair that is not quite long enough, place a second ponytail about 2 inches down and hide it under the first. This allows the hair from the second ponytail to flow farther down or to the nape while the first ponytail is fanned out to cover all traces of the second. This also works well with layered hair.
• The band of the first ponytail is hidden by taking part of the hair and then bobby-pinning it to your head in front of the band and then smoothing the hair over the band and blending it with the total ponytail. Skip this step if you have an ornamental barrette or large clip to hide the band.
• To create this look on even shorter hair, pull your hair back and secure it with bobby pins and hairspray. Fasten a hairpiece in the form of a small hair piece or a fall to the crown of your head, making sure to cover all the bobby pins. The hairpiece should be a perfect match of your own hair color.

Designer Annamarie von Firley, is a designer with a passion for collecting and wearing vintage clothing, received her first degree from Hampshire College with a Bachelor of Arts in Wooden Toy Design and Construction. She moved to San Francisco nearly seven years ago to earn her second degree from California College of Arts and Crafts and graduated with honors with a BFA in Furniture Design. We are highlighting the "Lillian" Gown. The bride of the 1940s had World War II to contend with. Rationing of fabric made simplicity in line and trimming an important factor to consider. A bride sometimes had no time to have a gown made before her fiancée was shipped off to war and had to make do with a suit or casual dress. The lucky bride had more time to consider her options. The most popular gown tended to be of rayon-satin worn in an unadorned A-line style. Although simplicity was key, wedding dresses were anything but boring. The A-line dress, also called the princess line, had a fitted bodice, a nipped in waist, and were usually fitted at the neckline, wrist, and midriff. with an A-line skirt. For those brides who wanted a little something different, over-dresses of sheer netting or lace would create a soft look. Moderate length veils were worn with decorative headdresses in a coronet style or a heart shaped style of fabric or lace, that would mimic a sweetheart neckline, a popular 40s motif.

“Lillian” is a stunning and accurate example of bridal wear from the early forties. This lovely dress is stitched in a buttery golden silk charmeuse with an overlay of caramel lace. The silk under-dress is princess-line, five-gore skirt fitted closely at the bodice and waist and is sleeveless with a sweetheart neckline. The overdress adds an air of modesty with a princess-line bodice, wrist-length leg-o-mutton sleeves that fasten with 4 loop and button closures, a high rounded neckline and fastens down the front of the dirndl skirt with 58 self-covered loop and button closures. The overdress made of carmel colored floral embroidered net adds a formal note appropriate for a church wedding.
